Race to the Past

It had been years since I’d visited.  Too long really.  But like so many things, I just lost track of time.  Schedules and other practicalities kept me away.  But here I was.  The windows to the shops looked just the same, only somehow brighter and cleaner.  On the east side, the fountain and its effervescent spray remind me of the competitions we held there. The glimmering sunlight reflected on everything.

I turn a corner; and would you believe that classic car that was always on the last street was still there?  Even the driver is the same.  Shades of orange, red, and green.  Signs lit up.  As I drove around, it was just as I remembered and then some.  I took some time to catch up with some old friends.  Nothing’s changed.  But everything’s changed.  I have to say, it’s great to be back…at Coconut Mall.  On my Nintendo Switch.

Coconut Mall is a race track in the popular Nintendo game, Mario Kart.  First appearing in Mario Kart Wii as the second race in the Flower cup, racers drive karts through the courts of a mall and the surrounding areas in a 3 lap race all while attacking each other with a variety of cartoon weapons  (Mariowiki.com).  The usual cast of Nintendo characters is present, including, of course, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and more.  Recently, Coconut Mall was added to the 2022 booster pass courses of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.  I paid for it.  The old saying is false, because truly, you can go home again.  This time in HD. Some Tuesdays, I join the Slice of Life community to share non-teaching related writing. This Tuesday is one.

  1. What a great description! You totally had me thinking you were visiting old neighbors. 🙂
I guess in a way you were. I hope you enjoyed your visit. Don’t stay away so long next time!

  2. This is great! At first I thought you were talking about a physical location. My son loves Mario Kart and his uncle plays often online with him. I’m going to share this with him.
