Systems and Feedback Loops

My mind is busy and likes to have something to work on. To that end, I’ve been thinking about systems and feedback loops.

Systems thinking, in a nutshell, is taking a broad look at something, for me, a school/classroom, and observing and analyzing it’s inter-connectedness. Realizing that the sum is greater than the parts and nothing where the outcomes are more/less desirable.

Cutting to the chase, I’m thinking about how I can create positive feedback loops for my students. This can be from a schedule lens: How to we start and end each section of our day? This could be from an attitude lens: What do my students believe about themselves as learners and how can I, their teacher, guide them toward a positive self-image? This could be from an academic lens: Do my students know what they are working toward? Do they know how it’s going?

I think I’ll have more to say real soon about all this.
